Course Description

1. Scope
Describes a magnetic method for measuring the thickness of non-magnetic coatings on magnetic substrates. (ISO 2178)

2. Application
Used for coatings like paint, enamel, chrome, and others on magnetic materials like steel or iron.

3. Principle
Measures the magnetic attraction between a magnet and the substrate, which varies based on coating thickness.

4. Equipment
Requires a calibrated magnetic thickness gauge suitable for the coating and substrate.

5. Procedure
Position the gauge probe perpendicular to the coating surface and record the thickness reading.

6. Precision
Dependent on gauge calibration, surface preparation, and operator skill.

7. Limitations
Not suitable for very thin coatings, rough surfaces, or substrates with weak magnetism.
