Course Description

1. Scope
Specifies a test method to evaluate the adhesion of paints and varnishes by cutting a grid pattern into the coating and assessing the level of detachment.

2. Application
Used for single or multilayer coatings on rigid substrates to determine their adhesion quality.

3. Principle
A series of cuts form a grid pattern on the coating, and adhesive tape is applied and removed to test adhesion.

4. Equipment
Includes a cutting tool, adhesive tape, and a magnifier for visual inspection.

5. Procedure
Make cuts through the coating, apply tape, remove it, and visually assess the adhesion level using a standardized scale.

6. Precision
Depends on operator skill, tape type, cutting accuracy, and substrate condition.

7. Limitations
Not suitable for coatings thicker than 250 μm or on flexible substrates.
